I’ve tried a bunch of new things over the past year or so.
I wrote my first full-length horror novel, BONES OF OUR STARS, BLOOD OF OUR WORLD.
I delved into role-playing game development with DEADPOOL ROLE-PLAYS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE and QUILL & CODEX.
I wrote a feature film screenplay for which we’re currently seeking funding.
I started a new partnership with Ignition Press.
Now, I’m embarking on another new project—The Cullenoscopy!
As written in the official press release:
New York Times bestselling comic book, novel, and short story author Cullen Bunn launched a brand-new video podcast series, ‘The Cullenoscopy,’ today on YouTube.
Appropriately launching on Friday the 13th, the series promises a “a Deep Exploration of Horror” with every episode diving into a specific horror topic or subgenre. Hosted by Bunn, ‘The Cullenoscopy’ promises “This Won’t Hurt a Bit” as one of the most prolific and successful modern writers of horror digs deep into topics including horror in comics, vampire horror, cosmic horror, and much, much more. Each episode, Bunn will be joined by a special guest co-host (or co-hosts!) for whimsical, fun-filled conversations between friends and you are invited to join!
The inaugural episode, which debuted today, features an introduction to the series along with an exploration of horror in comics with special guest Rebekah McKendry. McKendry is an award- winning director, writer, podcaster, and journalist best known for her horror features, Elevator Game and Glorious. McKendry began her career at Fangoria Entertainment before going on to Blumhouse Productions, where she was Editor-in-Chief. In addition to being a professor at USC, she is the writer of the comic series, Barstow, from Dark Horse and the upcoming graphic novel series, Pretty Evil, from Simon & Schuster. She currently hosts Fangoria’s ‘Colors of the Dark’ podcast which reaches over a quarter million listeners each month. Future episodes of ‘The Cullenoscopy’ will release every two weeks on Tuesdays on YouTube beginning June 24th, 2025 and include guest co-hosts John Avina, Dennis Hopeless, and Kyle Strahm.
“As the world’s most creative and horrific mind,” Bunn said sardonically, “I feel it is my responsibility to share everything I know. And I’ll be joined by some terrific friends and horror experts. This podcast will embrace the fun and love of the genre, never taking itself too seriously while being informative and entertaining.”
Cullen Bunn is one of the most prolific and successful horror writers working today with award nominations that include an Eisner Award, a Bram Stoker Award, a GLAAD Media Award, and a Harvey Award. His creator-owned series include The Sixth Gun, Harrow County, Bone Parish, The Damned, Basilisk, and The Empty Man, which was adapted into a critically acclaimed feature film by David Prior. He has also written memorable runs on franchises including Deadpool, X-Men, Green Lantern, Venom, Godzilla, and many more. His first horror novel, Bones of Our Stars, Blood of Our World, will be released by Gallery Books in November 2025.
‘The Cullenoscopy’ is hosted by Cullen Bunn and produced by Bunn, Bre Sarpy, and
Ignition Press. The show is edited by Robin Muir. For more information on ‘The Cullenoscopy,’ visit https://www.youtube.com/@TheCullenoscopy
The first several episodes will cover topics including:
Horror Comics
Vampires
Cosmic Horror
Horror Hosts
And I’ve got episodes on Slashers, Horror Scores, Horror Video Games, and more slated to be recorded!
My fondest wish is that you’ll give the show a watch… and, assuming you like it, you’ll hit the “like” button, subscribe to the channel, and tell all your friends about it!
Your support is what makes a video podcast like this one possible!
My son returned from Peru yesterday. He’s terribly exhausted, but he had an amazing time—the adventure of a lifetime! I’m happy he’s home, though.
While he was away, Cindy and I took an overnight trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where we stayed at “the most haunted hotel in America”—the Crescent.
During the day, we explored downtown Eureka Springs a little, did some shopping, had a nice meal, looked around the hotel. In all honesty, though, nothing seemed to go right for me.
It was probably due to a lack of planning and foresight on my part. One of the cocktail spots I wanted to hit was (despite claiming to be open) closed. The restaurant where I wanted to dine was impossible to get to via Uber or taxi. I probably could have driven there, but we used a hotel shuttle to get to the first (closed) spot. We were, after all, going to have drinks. And the shuttle didn’t run to the restaurant. By the time we got back to the hotel, we didn’t have the window of opportunity we needed for the restaurant. We tried to go back the next day… but it was closed even though the website said it was open. I had, at a few places, some of the worst old fashioneds I’ve ever experienced.
You know what, though?
I didn’t let it get me down.
This is… unusual for me. My standard MO is to get very bent out of shape, angry, and depressed when things go wrong. But… since things always go wrong… that’s no way to live. Before my son set out for Peru, I told him, “The trip’s not going to go off without a hitch. Plans will change. You’ll run into headaches. Your best laid plans will blow up in your face. Roll with it. Enjoy it. And remember how lucky you are.”
Guess I gotta take my own advice.
And those old fashioneds did get better with every sip.
While staying at the hotel, we went on an extended ghost tour. I didn’t see any spirits, but the tour was fascinating and stirred the imagination. I came up with a couple of awesome titles for the COOL TITLES list.
Outland Entertainment is gearing up to launch a couple of new Kickstarter projects with my name on them!
First up is a campaign for the print editions of QUILL & CODEX and DAEMONROT. This campaign will, I believe, launch in the next day or so, and it will only run for a week. Follow the campaign so you don’t miss it!
Outland will also be launching the campaign for I’LL KILL YOU LAST, a horror anthology I edited, soon!
I’LL KILL YOU LAST is a fusion of 80s action movies and horror. I’ve gathered a rogue’s gallery of talented writers to pen these stories, and I think you’ll love them!
Over the next several days, I’m knocking out a few comic series. One of them will be announced by the end of the month, I think. I’ve been working on setting up what’s next. I’ve sent eight new series proposals to my publisher, and I have a couple of more that are almost ready to be sent their way. I’m pretty happy with each and every one of them, and I imagine I’ll have a pretty good idea of what’s next for me very shortly.
This weekend, I’ll be attending the Route 66 Comic Con in Lebanon, Missouri. It’s just a one-day show, but I’m guessing I’ll have a helluva time there.
You’ll notice on the convention list below that I don’t have many more conventions slated for this year. That’s soon to change, I think, as I have several that I just haven’t listed yet and several more we’re working on setting up. I also have a few I’ll be attending just for fun.
I imagine there will be a few more added in the next week or so.
What GIFs sum up my life this week?

One of them coolest things I’ve picked up in the last week or so is the DUNGEONMEISTER RANDOM MONSTER GENERATOR.
It’s a spiral-bound book full of delightful artwork. With just a few flips of the page, you can create hundreds of thousands of monsters, complete with statistics! It has a charm that somehow reminds me of gaming in the good ol’ days.
The summer of epic fantasy continues! So far, I’ve read:
The Knight of Swords
The Queen of Swords
The King of Swords
