Issue 255: Welcome to the Bunniverse, Jumpscare…
Nightmare Fuel is the official newsletter for fans of my work. Thank you for subscribing. Please share it with others if you think they might be interested!
…Hope You Survive the Experience.
The creator exclusive variant of JUMPSCARE #1 is NOW AVAILABLE!
This cover is by Leila Leiz and Bill Crabtree. You can only get it from me (and, I suppose, any retailer who buys copies from me). When these are gone, they’re gone.
I love this book so much. It is some of the most fun I’ve ever had writing comics. I think readers are going to love this comic, this world, and this character… so don’t miss out!
Patrons who are supporting me at the $5.00 level will be able to order this book (and everything else in my shop) at a deep discount.
Also - Retailers… and I know there are a bunch of you who read this newsletter… message me if you want to by multiple copies of the book. I’m sure we can work something out.
It’s been a weird, busy week for me. Aren’t they all? I finished a couple of comic scripts, tinkered with a new role-playing game system called QUILL & CODEX, and tackled edits on my upcoming novel.
But it was like pulling teeth.
My motivation levels just… DROPPED… to nothing.
I find myself with work to do… work that needs to be done… and I’m focusing on little side projects and busy work to keep me distracted.
I’m not sure what that is about. Being overloaded. Being too tired. Not getting sleep. Not taking care of health. Being worried about the future. The last couple of days, I can feel those nasty panic attacks I was experiencing a few months ago creeping back into my life.
I’m battering them away like Elric hacking and slashing his way through an encroaching army.
Arioch!
Arioch!
Blood and souls for my lord Arioch!
I just don’t love the way I’ve been feeling lately.
But I’ll be all right.
It’s a new week. One of potential and opportunity. I have a road trip to make tomorrow. Maybe. It looks like I’ve got a winter storm on the horizon and if there is ice on the road, I’ll not be slipping and sliding around on it.
Then, I’ve got several more trips in the near future—one to LA, one to Seattle, and one to KC again.
I’m gonna be too busy to be stressed.
That’s how that works, right?
On Wednesday of this week, I’ll be joining Splash Pages for a LIVE INTERVIEW. Live! That means ANYTHING could happen! I hope you’ll join me, because I think it is going to be a lot of fun.
The interview goes live at 8EST/7CST.
Here’s where you can find it on YouTube:
And here’s where you can find it on Facebook.
Did you know that Outland Entertainment publishes a FREE digital magazine called Outland Worlds? It features new fiction, new comic stories, and new role-playing content. I helped them put it together. The first issue just came out and it will be coming out on a bi-monthly basis from this point forward. You should check it out!
Speaking of Outland… speaking of free content… they have also launched WRATHBORN on their site. WRATHBORN is a web comic set in a world of my own creation. I wrote the first 10-page preview (with art by Ger Curti), but the series will continue with Scott Colby writing. There is a ton of prose and RPG content in development, too!
What is WRATHBORN?
This is an apocalyptic story of magic and mutation. Think THUNDARR. Think GAMMA WORLD. It’s a wild and fun setting in which ANYTHING can happen.
Over at Forces of Geek, they’ve posted a really nice review of THE MIDNITE SHOW… Check it out.
If you haven’t been following my Patreon, here’s what you’ve been missing.
I do regular detailed updates of what I’m working on and how my day-to-day life is going. Those are available for everyone who subscribes, even at the FREE support level.
I’ve also been offering behind-the-scenes looks at the QUILL & CODEX roleplaying system.
I’ve been sharing the pitch, script pages, concept art, and comic art for a comic Chris Samnee, Shawn Lee, and I were trying to get off the ground… twenty years ago.
I’ve been doing deep discussions on the comic books that influenced me.
And I’ve been sharing scripts from THE SIXTH GUN.
I’ve been working on a new plan for my Patreon that’s going to make it even more exciting and valuable for supporters. I’ll unveil that in the weeks to come, but it will feature more fiction, more comics, more essays, more how-to articles, more behind-the-scenes content.
I’ve been re-reading the 80s/90s Arrow/Caliber comic series THE REALM. It’s hard to explain how much I loved this book, how much it influenced me… in terms of my comic reading preferences… in terms of gaming… and in terms of writing… especially the first dozen or so issues. Not a perfect book necessarily… but a perfect book for me at the time I first read it.
Not much going on beyond that. I’ve been reading-watching PARKS & RECREATION because I wanted some boundless optimism in my life.

HEXILES #4
The Hexiles have decided to turn the tables on the demonic forces that are tormenting them. They travel to Germany, where they find themselves in a demon-and ghost-infested castle. There, they come face-to-face with the infernal host. These demons want the children of Jamison Kreel for dark purposes. And giving in to their wishes would be so much easier than dying. Wouldn't it?
