Issue 244: “Just Remember I Love You”

Let’s cut right to the chase, shall we?
This is the final week to back CULLEN BUNN’S TRIPLE THREAT OF TERROR.
The project has JUST reached its funding goal, so the book is happening unless a bunch of people pull their pledges. It has been known to happen, and we’re close enough that it might cause some problems. I want the book to do a little better, of course. As it stands right now, the artists will be paid and printing will be covered, but the publisher won’t be making anything from the campaign… and neither will I. I will, of course, have three awesome comics to add to the library, but still…
Somehow (i.e. lack of planning) I managed to set this campaign up to end on, of all days, Thanksgiving. That should prove interesting (i.e. nerve-wracking) in terms of the end result.
Here’s a video interview I did about the project:
I promise you, you do not want to miss out on these three comics, and the only way to ensure you get them is to back this campaign. We’ve got three cool one-shot comics up for grabs in various styles. You can get them digitally, in print, autographed, or even blood-soaked!
As I write this, I’m in a hotel in Chicago. I’m here with a couple of friends to attend a horror convention. It’s a “for fun” event. I’ve been looking forward to it. Unfortunately, on the night we got here, we experienced a small medical emergency. Everyone is fine, but it was a nasty little surprise that has me thinking about how anything and everything can change—JUST LIKE THAT!
At a time when many of us celebrate thankfulness, though, I’m trying to focus on gratitude. This week, THE DAMNED, the book that started my comic-writing career, is being released in a giant hardcover. Another of my books, HARROW COUNTY, is receiving similar treatment. Also this week, two new projects have been announced (see below). And, as 2025 looms, I have so many new exciting new endeavors and opportunities on the horizon. That reminds me that, yes, anything and everything can change—JUST LIKE THAT—but it isn’t always for the worse. Sometimes, the changes are amazing. All in all, I’m thankful that I still get to tell stories for a living.
I’m thankful to have friends who put up with my nonsense… or distract me with their own nonsense… people who look out for each other and have each other’s backs through thick and thin.
Most of all, I’m thankful for Cindy and Roman. They really are the reason I bother getting up in the mornings. I’m not sure what I’d do without them in my life.
Speaking of Cindy…
About three hours into the drive to Chicago, I received a text from her that read, JUST REMEMBER I LOVE YOU. Sounds cute and sweet, sure, but I immediately recognized the message for what it was. I knew, with absolute certainty, that this was Cindy’s secret code for I JUST TOOK IN ANOTHER STRAY KITTEN.
Why am I always right?
A couple of new comics have been announced in the last week. The first takes me back to the good old days of computer gaming, churning my way through decaying dungeons and battling the Butcher. I’ll be writing DIABLO for Titan Books. The game… and the world in which it is set… has changed a lot in twenty-five years. I’m thrilled to be part of this project, which starts as a Free Comic Book Day issue, then rolls into a 4-issue limited series. I’m sworn to secrecy in terms of content, but I think you’ll dig it.
Next up is OUR BRILLIANT RUIN: HORROR AT CRANE MANSION from Dark Horse Comics and Studio Hermitage. Set in its own fantasy world, this pseudo-Edwardian horror mystery is based on the upcoming role-playing game. It’s a three issue series full of intrigue, interesting characters, and monstrous happenings.
As many of you know, earlier this year, the lovely Cindy (she’s getting a lot of newsletter space this edition) became a CASA volunteer.
CASA is so important in the lives of foster kids. Not only to be their voice in the system, but to be that one constant in a world that’s been turned completely upside down. It can be the difference between a life of uncertainty and misguidance or direction and purpose.
Next Tuesday is what’s called Giving Tuesday and CASA of SWMO is hoping to raise 42,000.00. My goal is to raise 1,500.00.
It would mean so much to me. Even if it’s 1.00, every little bit helps. If you can’t give, that’s ok. Please share.
It’s a big week for big books! If you’re looking for awesome gifts for the comic book fan in your life, I’ve got you.
THE DAMNED DELUXE OMNIBUS COLLECTION
Collecting all three volumes of the groundbreaking paranormal noir from acclaimed creators Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt (The Sixth Gun, Hellbreak) in one complete omnibus for the first time anywhere! Eddie Tamblyn runs the nightclub the Gehenna Room, with a strict no-demons-allowed policy, but he’s also cursed with the unique ability to return from the dead and transfer his mortal wounds to the first person who touches his corpse—an ability that places him in high demand for his city's princes of darkness, who hold his heavy debt.
Collecting The Damned: Three Days Dead #0–5 and The Damned #1–10 alongside the rarely seen "Three Days Earlier" prelude story.
