Issue 179: The NecronomiBunn
Vicious Shivers is the official newsletter for fans of my work. Thank you for subscribing. Please share it with others if you think they might be interested!
The Kickstarter campaign for THE SIXTH GUN launched this week. I’ve been so happy with the support for the project, and I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has backed this endeavor so far! As of this writing, over 400 backers have helped the project reach it’s funding goal AND achieve the first four stretch goals!
That means Brian and I will be getting to work on THREE new stories in THE SIXTH GUN UNIVERSE!
And, just to be clear, these prelude issues are preludes to the NEW SERIES Hurtt and I will be launching in 2025! The stories will serve as a bridge and a teaser for the big, big plans we have in mind for the future. Right now, we’re calling the new series THE SIXTH GUN: REBORN but Brian and I have a much better title in mind for it.
I was feeling nostalgic, so I started doing a little digging. I found this Fan Trailer for THE SIXTH GUN. If you haven’t watched it… if you’re not familiar with the book… this is a good introduction, really.
I also found this great song that was recorded by Adam Warrock almost ten years ago. It’s catchy. Be warned. It will stick with you.
This isn’t nostalgia… even though the pic of me they used here is pretty old. Brian and I did a video interview about the current Kickstarter campaign and the upcoming book we’ll be working on together.
In terms of interviews, there have been many in the past week. Here are a few of them. There is a lot of information to harvest from these discussions.
Comicon.com - THE SIXTH GUN Rides Again: a Campfire Conversation with Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt
Smash Pages - Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt on the Return of THE SIXTH GUN
Good times were had with all of these interviews! And I’m sure there are more to come!
In the meantime, please check out the Kickstarter campaign and throw some support our way if you’re able. A campaign like this has a big impact for an indie creator, far beyond just getting the books funded.
You can give it a look here.
As I write this, I am in a hotel in Wichita, Kansas. My son has been at a violin camp for the past week, and today Cindy and I will be picking him up and returning home. We took an extra couple of days to slow-roll the trip and relax a bit. We’re not doing anything too exciting, just enjoying a few restaurants and seeing a few sights. We visited one of my favorite shops, Back in Time Comics in Liberty MO. We stopped in at the horror-themed boutique 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Lawrence KS. We popped into a tiki bar called Lava and Tonic here in Wichita.
I had a beautiful flaming drink called the Jalisco Headhunter.
I need to relax a bit, because my thoughts are in a constant roiling tempest of stress and worry and even a little excitement right now. It’s not been super conducive to a good night’s sleep, and when I wake up—even for a second—my frantic brain keeps me awake for way too long.
I think I’m going to enter another Scriptpocalypse. I did pretty well during the last one, but I’ve lost a bit of steam and drive in the aftermath. I need to get focused and cranking, though, because the outlines on a few projects have been greenlit, and a couple of new, unexpected books have surfaced in the last week. My agent has also requested an outline for a prose novel, so I’ve got to motor on that!
Looking at all the projects that could be launching in the next few months, it feels like there’s a lot of great horror on the horizon. Several books will be announced and/or solicited in the next month. I’m trying to think of how to best promote and market this. The Bunnpocalypse? The NecronomiBunn? I’m definitely going to do a little countdown graphic of all the new books that’ll be popping up! Some very exciting stuff is on the way, my friends!
Next weekend, I’ll be attending Tremendicon in Springfield, MO. I’m running the Writer Track for the event, and here are the panels I have planned. For the sake of space, I’m not listing the panelists for each panel. Just the topics. I think I came up with a fun list of topics.

Before moving on, I should note that before next week, my darling wife Cindy will have a birthday. Born on the 4th of July! Please join me in wishing her the happiest of days. The happiest of years. She deserves it.
I love you, Cindy.
DOOR TO DOOR, NIGHT BY NIGHT #7
Welcome to the sales team, Johnny Rad! Hope you like murderous man-beasts in the night! As a would-be hairband rockstar joins the crew, strange stories of monsters in the woods begin to surface. What happens, though, when monsters aren't exactly as they seem? What happens when our team encounters the monster that other monsters fear?
This week, I watched BECKY and WRATH OF BECKY based on the recommendation of my pal Mr. Macabre. I really liked both of the flicks. Not sure which one I liked better. They definitely had different tones and styles. The villainous leads were pretty great in both, especially considering it is odd to see these actors as heavies.
Been raveling a bit this weekend, and I was able to grab this box set and these books to add to my role-playing game collection.
I’ve wanted those for a long while, and I’m thrilled to have them now!
Here is a quick and dirty list of upcoming projects. In most cases, I’m only listing projects that are definitely on the schedule with a published. Oftentimes, I will not be able to share much information, but I can at least tease the future! Everything here is, of course, subject to change.
