Issue 7: When is a Collected Edition NOT a Collected Edition?
Three new books hit the stands today!
Welcome back to another edition of the Spinner Rack of Doom! This week, I’ve started the process of re-writing my upcoming novel BONES OF OUR STARS, BLOOD OF OUR WORLD. That will take up most of the month, I think. That doesn’t, of course, mean I’ve forgotten comics. This week, in fact, I have a few books coming out. New series are starting up! Other series are wrapping up!
Feast your eyes!
First up, THE FARAWAY is still live on Kickstarter, but only for another day or so. The campaign ends this week. Don’t let it slip away. Please CHECK IT OUT!
We know the story, right? While playing a fantasy role-playing game, a group of friends accidentally transports themselves into a fantasy world. Therein, they meet a friendly magical gnome who grants them magical weapons and guides them through their adventures. They face dark forces, but they rise into the roles of heroes and reaffirm the lifelong bonds of friendship in the process.
Yeah.
This isn’t that story.
Our heroes are transported into a magical kingdom of warriors and wizards and dragons and catacombs, yes. They meet a friendly magical gnome, yes. They are granted magical artifacts of great power, yes. But, within minutes of arriving in the fantasy world, this group of five college students finds themselves thrown into an adventure that is more horror than high fantasy.
Our heroes have arrived, you see, in the DARKEST if dark fantasy worlds, where the “evil overlord” has already successfully conquered the realm and enslaved all of the free peoples. It is a nightmare realm populated by the most awful monsters and the most cruel sorcerers and warlords.
Think of it as a tale of survival horror... in a land like Mordor… if the corruption of Mordor spread across all of Middle Earth.
Trapped in this violent, vicious, unforgiving, terrifying (and terrifyingly lethal) realm, our heroes struggle for survival as, at every turn, they are faced with malignant monsters, foul magic, and fiendish foes.
If you missed the campaign for the first issue, don’t worry! You can grab that issue right along with issue 2!

THE AUTUMN KINGDOM #1
In the borderlands between imagination and reality, horror and fantasy, master storyteller Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Harrow County) and visionary artist Christopher Mitten (Hellboy & the B.P.R.D.) begin one family’s labyrinthine descent through a perilous forest where the local folklore is anything but a myth . . . Bestselling author Andrew Kier found the perfect place to finish his latest dark-fantasy novel—an idyllic, remote cabin on the edge of a lush Swedish forest. His young daughters, Sommer and Winter, gleefully explore . . . until they happen upon a strange clearing of ancient statues: goblins, dwarves, elves, and a warrior queen mysteriously missing her swordhand and weapon. When something sinister follows the girls home and viciously snatches their parents in the night, the sisters’ only hope may be that ancient relic, lost in the forest underbrush, waiting for a new champion to take it up . . .
This one is getting some good buzz and reader response. I’m really pleased with the way it turned out. I’ll admit, it feels really weird that it’s already out. Seems like just a few days ago that I started writing it. Anyhow, if you like the idea of a pair of girls using a giant sword to kill evil fey, this is for you!
ARKHAM HORROR #2
A horde of monsters has risen from the dust, and Joe and Jenny find themselves outnumbered. The cultists provided them with just one clue: Greymont. But where — or who — is Greymont? Will Joe and Jenny find answers or more questions? And what further dangers lie within the shifting sands of the artifact?
The feedback on the first issue of this series was pretty strong. That pleases me to no end, because writing an Arkham Horror story has been a long time coming for me. I’m such a big fan of the game, the characters, and the world.
DOOR TO DOOR, NIGHT BY NIGHT TPB Volume 3
The last time our sales crew met the dreaded Lamashtu, their lives were changed forever. Now the demon is back, nesting in another small town, abducting children. When the crew runs afoul of the monster this time, there’s a good chance none of them will survive. Will this be the last door they knock on?
This one is a little weird, actually. It appears to be a collected edition, yes, but this is the first time the stories in this book have been published. It’s more of an OGN than a collection. So, if you read the first eight issues in single issues, the only way you can read the conclusion of the series is in this trade paperback.
